Dr. G. V. M. Sharma FTAS, FNASc, FRSC (UK)
Dr. G. V. M. Sharma is an excellent synthetic organic chemist, with a rich experience of around 35 years both in research and leadership. He superannuated as Chief Scientist from CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Ministry of S&T, Government of India. He made outstanding contributions both in the academic and industrial research, in the fields of agro, pharma and fragrance chemicals. He worked on the synthesis of natural products, peptidic foldamer chemistry, novel libraries for drug discovery,new route scouting for APIs and process development, with the main emphasis on carbohydrates, peptides, and asymmetric synthesis. He was instrumental in the identification of an NCE for anti-asthma (PDE-4 inhibitor), which completed pre-clinical studies. His other contributions include the conversion of biomass to bioethanol and value-added products, besides he developed interest on the development of bio-based products. He worked with several industrial clients both from India and abroad on diverse topics.
He trained 52 students for Ph. D., published more than 230 research papers, four book chapters, a book and 15 patents. His contributions in application oriented organic synthesis fetched him recognitions like, Ranbaxy Research Award, OPPI Senior Scientist Award and NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award, besides FTAS (India), FNASc (India), and FRSC (UK).
